Topic: System.OutOfMemoryException Errors in Publish Report

Over the last couple of weeks, the publishing jobs on our RedDot 9.0.1.95 server have been frequently but not regularly completing with errors:

 

Pagebuilder send:

BuildNavigationErr: ERROR#7, Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

 

and later

 

RequestPageFromPageBuilder: Error

BuildNavigationErr: ERROR#7, Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown. in page XXXXX.  Trying again.

 

Because the errors aren't reliable, our thinking is that there is something in the environment becoming hostile at times.  RedDot?  Windows?  Network?  We can't pinpoint anything.  Usually if we immediately publish again, there are then no errors.  If we do nothing and let it publish again the next night, usually there are no errors.  It might go a few days and then produce errors again.

 

Anyone have any thoughts or tips?

Hi

We had also a memory based error in our publications. After we used Microsoft perform to monitor CPU, memory and the OT services it turned out that the Pagebuilder crashes when it allocates appr. 1GB RAM.

The problem is known at OT under Defect WSGMS-5248. We are using MS 10.1SP2. The defect will not be fixed in version 10 but in version 11 it should not happen - like the support said. It looks like the Pagebuilder is not able to free the memory by itself.

Until now we do not had the possibilty to migrate to version 11. Our workaround is to publish only one project at the same time and do a server restart after each publication process. After the restart the Pagebuilder service has allocated only small amount of RAM.

It looks like I forgot to follow up on this.  One of the multiple connected pages was a recursive connection.  Once I removed the recursion, everything suddenly cleared up.  I did later go back and clean up the rest of the multiple connections, but the resursive connection appears to have been the downfall.

We don't have a ticket number with OpenText for this.

 

We have two copies of our project--live and staging.  I converted page connections to references and fixed some other misconnected pages in staging yesterday.  Staging published okay last night.  Live had the memory errors.  After analyzing several of the failed publishes, I found one page in particular that appeared in all of them, whether live or staging.  It was connected to inself and showed as "(recursive)" in SmartTree.  That was one of the things I fixed in staging yesterday.  After live failed again last night, I now fixed it in live this morning.  We'll see how it goes over the next couple of days.

Dan, I've been studying the thread you provided.  We're well past the patches and hotfixes they mention.  But, we do have an epidemic of pages connected in multiple locations.  I've installed the plug-in and converted hundreds of connections to references.  I have it down to under 10 double connections that I need the content administrators to look at.  Even if this isn't causing the problem, it seems like good things to fix.  I don't think we have much going on with the questionable render tags mentioned.  We do have a lot of pre-execution going on in our pages but that volume hasn't significantly changed over the last few years, especially not in the last few weeks.
